Continuing Education Requirements for the State of Massachusetts

Requirements for license renewal for RNs and LPNs Advanced Practice: Approved Providers: Failure to meet requirements:

Continuing Education: 15 Contact Hours within the two years immediately preceding renewal of registration for licensure.

All continuing education requirements may be obtained by Home Study.

Maintain National Certification 

Must meet the criteria in MA Board of Nursing regulations.
Programs meeting the criteria in other states meet MA Board of Nursing criteria.
Programs approved by organizations, as ANCC, meets MA Board criteria:
NURSING EDUCATION OF AMERICA® is Accredited as a Provider of Continuing Education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

It is not legal to work in any capacity as a nurse if the license is not renewed by the expiration date. The renewal form requires the nurse to sign their name verifying they have completed 15 contact hours within the previous two years. Disciplinary actions can include: reprimand, probation, suspension, summary or stayed suspension, surrender (of license), or revocation (of license).
