Continuing Education Requirements for the State of New Mexico

Requirements for license renewal for RNs and LPNs Advanced Practice: Approved Providers: Failure to meet requirements:

Continuing Education: 30 Contact Hours
(1 Contact Hour = 50 Minutes)
Nurse practitioners: 50 Contact Hours
RN anesthetists: AANA recertification card
Clinical nurse specialist: copy of recertification card

All continuing education requirements may be obtained by Home Study.

New Mexico is a part of the Interstate Compact License group that recognizes and permits nurses to practice in group states under their home state license. License renewal must be obtained under the home state license requirements.

NPs must maintain national certification. The CNP shall accrue a total of 50 contact hours of approved CE each renewal period. National Certification or recertification may not be used to fulfill any portion of the CE requirement. 30 contact hours shall meet the requirements for licensure as a RN, and additional 20 hours, 15 of which must be pharmacology, shall meet the requirements for licensure as a nurse practitioner. Continuing education is not required for initial CRNA licensure by endorsement. CE requirements must be met at the time of first renewal. Recertification by AANA council on recertification of nurse anesthetists will meet the mandatory CE requirements for CRNA licensure. Continuing education: Recertification by AANA council of recertification of nurse anesthetists is accepted for meeting mandatory CE requirements. NURSING EDUCATION OF AMERICA® is Accredited as a Provider of Continuing Education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

Disciplinary action against the license is contemplated. License may not be renewed, reinstated or reactivated
