Continuing Education Requirements for the State of Texas

Requirements for license renewal for RNs and LPNs Advanced Practice: Approved Providers: Failure to meet requirements:

Continuing Education: 20 Contact Hours every 2 years.

At least 10 contact hours must be earned from Type I programs, such as those accredited by ANCC. All may be Type I.

2 hours in Bioterrorism Response must be completed by September 1, 2007.

All Type I continuing education requirements may be obtained by Home Study.

Texas is a part of the Interstate Compact License group that recognizes and permits nurses to practice in group states under their home state license. License renewal must be obtained under the home state license requirements.

 

 

Advanced practice nurses require 20 contact hours in the specialty area and advanced role every 2 years. With prescriptive authority, 5 additional contact hours in pharmacotherapeutics is required. 

The Board of Nurse Examiners recognizes ANCC to approve programs and providers for Type I CE credit.
NURSING EDUCATION OF AMERICA® is Accredited as a Provider of Continuing Education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

All NEA courses are classified as Type 1 in Texas.

Failure to meet an audit of CE requirements shall constitute unprofessional conduct and provide grounds for disciplinary action
